Micro-credential - Enacting Human Rights in the Lives of Adults with Intellectual Disabilities
This micro-credential will be relevant to all intellectual disability service providers and professionals who wish to develop competency and knowledge in respect of the enactment of human rights in the day-to-day lives of people with intellectual disabilities.
It will equip learners with the necessary knowledge, skills, attitudes, and competencies to enact rights-oriented service and person-centred support to people with intellectual disabilities in line with the United Nations Convention on Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNCRPD).
Learners will engage in online directed and self-directed learning activities, take part in discussions on key issues and apply their learning over the eight weeks in the development of a case study related to understanding and enacting human rights in the life of a person who the student supports.
On successful completion of this micro-credential, learners will be able to:
- Demonstrate a systematic understanding of the legislative framework associated with providing a rights-oriented service to people with intellectual disabilities.
- Critically utilise evidence-based knowledge, skills, and competence in the critical evaluation of current models of service for people with intellectual disabilities.
- Explore the role of human engagement in relation to understanding the lives of people with intellectual disability to whom they provide service.
- Demonstrate an understanding of the importance of self-advocacy/independent advocacy in achieving individually determined lives for people with intellectual disabilities.
- Demonstrate knowledge of the role of the service and service personnel in enacting person-centred supports for people with intellectual disabilities.
HCI Pillar 3 Learner Fee Subsidy: Candidates who meet the eligibility criteria may qualify for a 50% fee subsidy, subject to the availability of subsidized places.
