The Sutherland School of Law makes available a number of full scholarships for those commencing their PhD studies in UCD. These are typically advertised early in each calendar year. All those who apply to undertake a full time PhD in the School by the deadline are considered. The scholarships provide tuition fees and a yearly stipend of €16,000 (tax free) for four years subject to satisfactory performance.

Requirements for Doctoral Scholarships
Those who receive a Sutherland School of Law scholarship are required to undertake some teaching and support responsibilities (e.g. to assist in conference organisation or to assist in mooting competitions) of not more than 6 hours per week. They are also required, where eligible, to apply after their first year of study for a prestigious Government of Ireland scholarship.
Successful Applicants
The Sutherland School of Law is pleased to offer up to three new doctoral scholarships in law from 2019-2020.
The scholarships will provide tuition fees at up to the non-EU rate and a yearly stipend of €16,000. The scholarships are tenable for a maximum of four years, renewable each year subject to satisfactory progress. The scholarships are available to full time students commencing their doctoral studies in the School of Law in September 2019 or January 2020. A limited amount of teaching and related duties will be required of scholarship holders.
