Science Foundation Ireland Industry Fellowship Programme

Congratulations to the 23 successful projects chosen for the latest round of SFI Fellowships. TD Heather Humphreys announced yesterday that €1.8 million is allocated to the programme.

These researchers, chosen from the 2017 call, will take temporary placements in industry. Academic researchers will gain insight into a commercial working environment. There they will experience cultural differences, and the industrial approach to project management. Meanwhile, industry researchers will enter academic institutions. They will have access to, not only specialised equipment, but the knowledge within the academic community. The placements range from 2-24 months, with over 130 industry partnerships to date.

The successful entries cover a range of worthy topics. These include renewable energy; cancer research; medical devices; environmental sensors; and materials science. They are supported by 20 industry partners, from Irish start-ups and SMEs to large MNCs. The funding is provided by the Department of Business, Enterprise and Innovation, and is awarded through Science Foundation Ireland.

The maximum Industry Fellowship award amount is €100,000 direct costs. SFI welcomes applications from female researchers and engineers. Visit www.sfi.ie for further details.
