About NUI Galway
As one of Ireland’s best high education institutions, NUI Galway ranks amongst the top 2 per cent of universities in the world. The university has a commitment to research as well as quality teaching. As a result, NUI Galway attracts over €50 million in direct research income annually.
The university opened in 1845 as Queen’s College, Galway. The following year it became part of the Queen’s University of Ireland. It became a constituent college of the new National University of Ireland in 1908. In 1997 it became known as the National University of Ireland, Galway.
NUI Galway has around 17,000 students as well as about 2,500 staff. The university teaches over 60 disciplines across 16 Schools and five Colleges. In addition, NUIG is home to a number of internationally recognised research centres and institutes.
The campus is set in Galway’s buzzing city centre. Galway is world-famous for the city’s vast variety of cultural and sporting events and festivals.
