The call for Maynooth University John & Pat Hume Doctoral Awards is now open. Established in honour of John Hume, an alumnus of Maynooth University, and in recognition of his important contribution to Ireland, the John & Pat Hume Doctoral Awards are offered across all disciplines at Maynooth University.
There is one type of award this year offering €18,500 stipend, €2,000 for research expenses plus fees for four years.
The call for John & Pat Hume Doctoral Awards is now open/ Wednesday, 30th November 2022 and closes at 12 midnight on Monday, 30th January 2023

In advance of commencing your online John & Pat Hume scholarship application, please note you will be required to:
- Discuss your research topic with academics at Maynooth University who are agreeing to be your supervisors in that department.
- Notify your potential supervisor(s) that they will be required to support your application.
- Notify referees (recommenders) that you will be including their details on your Hume scholarship application and that you will require their email address.
- Obtain original certified transcripts of academic qualifications for upload.
- Develop a Research Proposal (maximum of 4 pages)
- You will be required to upload your research project proposal. In your research proposal, describe the topic, including aims and objectives and central research questions. Describe the methodology, including for example investigative and analytical methods and theoretical frameworks. Include ethical considerations and planned dissemination. Describe the proposed research plan and include a schedule for the completion of tasks and phases of the project.
- Prepare Supplementary Material (maximum of 3 pages)
- In addition to the four-page proposal, you may submit up to three pages of supplementary material (Gantt chart and any graphs or tables) to accompany your research proposal.
