In Griffith College’s faculty of Journalism and Media Communications, we offer three Masters programmes designed to kick-start your media career. All programmes are recognised by the National Union of Journalists and are conducted on both a full and part-time basis – full-time taking one-year to complete and part-time taking two.
Want to be the next great PR guru?
The MA in Journalism and Public Relations prepares you to pursue a career as aPR content creator or strategic planner,who has an understanding of the media industry and is able to research, formulate and implement communication plans and strategies.
- You will gain a theoretical understanding of workings of the media industry including Sociology of the Media, Communications and Audience Theories and Research Methods.
- You will develop specific skills in journalism through Writing & Reporting modules, participating in News days, delivering print and radio reports.
- You will create high-quality media content and develop effective public relations strategies.
Destined for a career in TV or Radio?
The MA in TV and Radio Journalism addresses the demand for specialisms in TV and Radio Journalism in the industry. The programme teaches students practical and theoretical competencies required to become advanced media practitioners in relation to TV and radio journalism.
- You will display reflective critical learning and develop strong practical skills in media production with the use of TV studio, film and television production equipment.
- You will avail of our state of the art facilities including an on-campus radio station, 2 broadcasting studios, 4 photographic studios, 3 darkrooms, a TV and video studio and a sound engineering studio.
- This programme will equip learners with the skills to competently address the demands of a changing industry and to specialise in TV and Radio Journalism.

The MA in Journalism and Media Communications is designed with input from Irish journalists, academics and media practitioners and offers a comprehensive multimedia syllabus that is relevant to current and emerging job opportunities, and reflective of technical, creative, social and market developments.
- You will gain a solid understanding of media theory, research methods and media law and ethics.
- You will significantly develop your writing, production and communication skills, exploring areas like reporting, feature writing and investigative journalism.
- You will be challenged in real journalistic situations in print, broadcast and online media in a working environment through work with the college magazine, online publications and our radio station.
- You will have the opportunity to create a professional portfolio of your writing, radio output as well as video and photography work to show future employers.
