The Findings symposia celebrates this unique culture of research and signals the impact and influence our graduates will have on society.

Established in 2019 by Dr Tina Kinsella, Findings is designed as a platform to showcase and celebrate students’ written academic research at IADT. These symposia invite students from across Masters by Research, taught Masters and BA (Hons) programmes to share colourful, fascinating and provocative findings from their written research with each other, with staff and with the wider public.

This year, Findings II presents fifteen fascinating research projects spanning topics from archives to animation; monsters to homonationalism; revolution to obedient bodies; hostile design to feminist publishing; gamified education to children’s television; and a lot more besides. Each themed panel involves pre-recorded presentations, followed by chaired discussion and audience questions.

Sensitive to the realities of screen-fatigue, we aim to create an insightful, enjoyable, and sociable online event that balances the rigour of our students’ work with periods of music and relaxation. To this end, during the Lunch Hour, the Break Room will turn musical with a curated playlist by IADT’s own Peter Evers (Lecturer on the BA (Hons) in Visual Communication Design). We encourage all attendees to make use of the Break Room, which will be open throughout the symposium to provide a space for listening, reflection, and conversation, and to share some food and drink remotely with others.

The day will begin with an informal breakfast hangout, followed by a welcome and some introductory remarks from the Findings programme committee (Dr Jessica Foley, Dr Linda King, Dr Tina Kinsella, and Dr Daithí Mac Síthigh). The symposium will be opened by renowned artist and IADT alumni, Jesse Jones, who will speak about her time at IADT and the value of academic research in creative practice. IADT President, David Smith, will close the event.
