The Blue Book Traineeship scheme offers a paid internship for graduates for 5 months with the European Commission or some executive bodies of the European Institutions like the European External Action Service. This year’s opportunities these begin on either 1st March or 1st October.

The traineeship programme, including the preselection, is managed by the Traineeships Office of Directorate General for Education and Culture (DG.EAC) of the European Commission.
Every year, there are about 1400 places available out of which the EEAS can offer 30 traineeship possibilities per session (60 traineeships per year).
Traineeships in the EEAS provide an opportunity to get a better understanding of the functioning of the EU institutions and of the decision making process and policies in the foreign relations field.
The content of the job largely depends on the service the trainee is assigned to. You may work in a geographical or a thematic division dealing with multilateral issues, human rights, conflict prevention, etc.
Daily work of a trainee consists of:
- researching and compiling documentation, drafting reports and analysis, preparing briefings and answering queries;
- attending and organising meetings, working groups, forums, public hearings.

The traineeship program is open to university graduates from all over the world who have a:
1. degree of at least 3 years of study (minimum a bachelor),
2. very good knowledge of English or French or German.
3. very good knowledge of a second EU official language (required for nationals of EU countries).
Candidates who have previously done more than 6 weeks of in-service training or work (paid or unpaid) at any of the European institutions, bodies or agencies are excluded.
