A new exhibition entitled Breathe has opened in the Jennings Gallery in The Jennings Gallery | University College Cork.
Curated by Colette Cunningham from the School of Public Health, this is a particularly poignant exhibition as it aims to raise funds for the Adult Cystic Fibrosis Unit in CUH, in loving memory of Colette’s sister Betty McDonald.
The title ‘Breathe’ was chosen by Colette because of its relevance to Cystic Fibrosis patients, in addition to Colette’s belief that ‘this exhibition reminds us to appreciate amateur art, it’s a reminder to take time out, step back from life’s stresses, to take the time to breathe.’
The exhibition features the work of three wonderful artists – Colette, Jules Versluis and Christine Allan.
At the opening, there were very moving speeches from Colette, Prof Ella Arensman (Head of the School of Public Health), Prof Josephine Hegarty (Chair of the Jennings Gallery Committee), Christine Allen (Artist) and Clare Fleming from the CUH.
The exhibition opening proved to be a very enjoyable and successful evening, some paintings have been sold and donations are coming in for this important cause.
Colette says: ‘I am fundraising to buy 8 TVs for the dedicated CF in-patient rooms at Cork University Hospital. My sister was a patient there so I experienced first-hand the excellent care the staff provided to cystic fibrosis patients. When someone needs to stay in hospital for a long period of time, then having a TV is important and easier than dealing with a dodgy internet connection. Being able to watch your favourite team play an international or follow your favourite soap opera helps the time pass by.’
The exhibition runs until 31 May in the Jennings Gallery so please pop along and enjoy the art – take some time out of your busy day and breathe.
Sincere thanks all those who have already donated or purchased artwork.
And special thanks to Amy Mullins who painted invite for the Art exhibition Breathe and took some lovely photos of the exhibition opening.
And if you would like to donate to this worthwhile cause, you can do so at Breathe – Fundraiser for Adult CF Unit CUH Cork (gofundme.com)
