The Galway-Mayo Institute of Technology’s School of Science and Computing has launched five new Master of Science programmes, commencing September 2021:
- MSc in Sport and Clinical Biomechanics,
- MSc in Nutrition and Sensory Science,
- MSc in Medical Science,
- MSc in Biopharmaceutical Manufacturing and the
- MSc in International Medical Technologies, Innovation and Development
All of these courses are in-demand as highlighted in “Ireland’s National Skills Strategy 2025”.
GMIT Launch Five New Master of Science Programmes
Each of the new programmes has been developed in partnership with enterprise, delivering innovative training schemes consistent with the highly competitive and increasingly inter-disciplinary requirements demanded by the jobs of tomorrow.
The first two programmes are delivered in the Department of Sport, Exercise and Nutrition headed up by Dr Lisa Ryan with the other three delivered in the newly established Department of Analytical, Biopharmaceutical & Medical Science headed by Dr Eugene McCarthy, recently appointed as the new Head of Department within the School of Science & Computing.
Dr Des Foley, Head of the School of Science and Computing, GMIT, says: “These new programmes build on deep expertise across disciplines in GMIT and offer a diverse choice to graduates. All programmes have been developed with strong industry input and the emphasis on flexible delivery will suit those on the workplace seeking to enhance their knowledge and skills in highly relevant areas.”
The MSc in Sport and Clinical Biomechanics is a full-time taught programme which runs over 18 months, designed to provide graduates working in sport science, physiotherapy, and healthcare professions with in-depth knowledge and skills in the area of biomechanics and movement analysis. The MSc in Nutrition and Sensory Science is a full-time taught programme designed to provide graduates working in Food Science, Nutritional Science, Sensory Science, and Culinary Arts professions with in-depth knowledge and skills in the area of Nutrition and Sensory Science. The MSc in Medical Science programme has been designed for Medical Scientists in full-time employment aiming to enhance their careers in research and advanced clinical (or professional) practice, supporting careers. Learners will develop an in-depth knowledge of clinical and laboratory medicine and advanced skills to conduct independent research. The MSc in Biopharmaceutical Manufacturing programme was designed in partnership with Irish companies manufacturing biopharmaceuticals and relevant industry stakeholders. Learners will develop both critical research skills in biopharmaceutical science and in-depth understanding of the quality processes involved in the manufacture of biopharmaceuticals products. The MSc in International Medical Technologies, Innovation and Development programme develops the necessary skills required to strategically support the innovation journey of medical technologies for access into target international markets.
