Doctoral Research Fellowship in Music History: The Department of Musicology at The University of Oslo invites applications for a PhD Research Fellowship (SKO1017) in the field of Music History.

The successful candidate will work on an independent research project in the field of music history. Proposals adopting critical approaches to the analysis of notated compositional traditions, with an emphasis on the performance and relevance of music of the past, will be considered. Other areas of relevance may include the current reception, curation and interpretation of the music.

Proposals which engage with social and cultural issues such as race, gender, power hierarchies and normativity, are encouraged.

The candidate will be affiliated with the research training programme at the Faculty of Humanities. The fellowship is to result in a doctoral thesis that will be defended at the Faculty of Humanities with a view to obtaining the degree of PhD. The successful candidate will be integrated within the lively research community at the Department of Musicology and the broader interdisciplinary research network of scholars in the field of music history at the Department.

The appointment is for a duration of 3 years. All PhD candidates who submit their doctoral dissertation for assessment with a written recommendation from their supervisor within 3 years or 3 ½ years after the start of their PhD position, will be offered, respectively, a 12 or 6 month Completion Grant.
