The Department of Media Communications at Cork Institute of Technology (CIT) has a postgraduate programme in E-learning Design and Development.
MA in E-learning Design and Development
The MA programme in E-learning Design and Development is a flexibly delivered programme. It prepares students for careers as developers of cutting-edge, educationally effective e-learning solutions.
E-learning as a field of study, as an approach to teaching and learning and as an industry has evolved considerably. Governments and policy makers have made e-learning a central imperative of their political educational rhetoric. In addition, they provide substantial funding initiatives to support its development and mainstreaming. Related policies with regard to lifelong learning, the knowledge-based economy, work-based learning and globalisation combine with the benefits of e-learning as a delivery and support tool. As a result, e-learning is one of the most rapidly growing sectors in the worldwide education and training and digital media industries.
The programme is a Master of Arts and, as such, reflects a special orientation towards, variously, creativity, culture and design, rather than technology per se.
Employment opportunities exist both directly in the e-learning industry and in a wide range of other sectors. This is because e-learning has become a mainstream practice or service.
